"I Will Not Refrain" includes 27 original songs. I know what you may be thinking, that's a lot of songs. Well, you're right. But the thing is, it would be impossible for me to release these particular tunes apart from each-other. Each one of these songs are intentionally placed in this collection. They were birthed from the same season of my life. A season when all I could do to get me through to the other side was pour my heart, my pain, my questions, my fears and doubts out to Jesus. The only place in The Bible I can find the phrase "I will not refrain" is in the book of Job: "Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul." (Job 7:11). Job was facing the worst of the worst situations and made the decision to be completely honest before God about how he felt. For me, in the context of these songs, I made the decision say, I will not refrain from being completely honest with God and I will not refrain from worshiping God in the midst of it. You will find many songs that are a lyrical dialog between me and the Father. I truly would feel Him comfort me and speak life into me and I did my best to write down what I heard. I might add, the recordings are not overly "polished" and the production is very simple. This was an intentional decision, to use the original demo recordings of each song. My recording process usually goes hand in hand with my songwriting process. I would find myself struggling with some element of the season I was in, choose to worship Jesus, choose to write a song and record it as I went along. The result was a recording that, to me, felt too genuine to be able to replicate. My prayer is that as you listen through these songs, they would bring healing to you in your struggle and remind you of the abundance of love, joy, comfort and strength that Father God has for you.
